Results of the Second Meeting of the Vietnam-Japan Joint Study Group for Cooperation Activities on Environmental Management

The MOE of Japan held the above-mentioned closed-door meeting with the Institute of Science for Environmental Management, the Vietnam Environment Administration (ISEM-VEA), the Ministry of Natural Resources (MONRE) of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam from the 30th of September to the 1st of October, 2009, in Tokyo, Japan.

1. They discussed and exchanged their views on the following topics:

(1) Japan's experience and Vietnam's recent efforts in relation to Industrial Wastewater Management
- Countermeasures against industrial wastewater pollution at national government level, local government level and business institution level in Japan
- Current status of development of legal system, human resource and technologies in relation to industrial wastewater management in Vietnam and their difficulties
(2) Interim Report on the Policy Research
- Shortcomings in legal framework and organizational structure in relation to environmental management in Vietnam
- Needs for environmental technologies in Vietnam

2. They agreed on the outline of the planned workshop in Hanoi to be scheduled at the end of November. The detailed plan of the workshop will be announced later.
