Asian Network

"Asian Network for Prevention of Illegal Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes" is an informal platform among the Competent Authorities and Basel Convention Regional Centre (BCRC) in Asian countries. The Network was proposed and initiated by the Government of Japan in 2004 for the purpose of prompting information sharing and cooperation necessary for the implementation of the Basel Convention in Asia. As of 2018, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China (including Hong Kong SAR), Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan, and 2 BCRCs (BCRC China and BCRC-SEA in Indonesia) are actively involved in the network activity. Annual workshops sponsored by the Government of Japan have been held since 2004 and exchanged up-to-date information of regulations or challenged faced by participating countries.
