The First Expert Meeting on Design of Regional Network, Prevention and Control of Dust and Sandstorms in Northeast Asia Held

Ministry of the Environment of Japan, the Asian Development Bank and the United Nations Environmental Programme held jointly the First Expert Meeting on Design of Regional Network, Prevention and Control of Dust and Sandstorms in Northeast Asia on 17-19 August 2005 in Tsukuba, Japan.

The meeting was advocated at the Ministers Meeting on Dust and Sandstorms among Korea, China, Japan and Mongolia held in December 2004. In the meeting, the discussion on design of regional network on dust and sandstorms monitoring by the four countries were launched.

To be specific, the results of the monitoring on current status of dust and sandstorms conducted by the respective participating countries and the international organizations were presented. Also, participants exchanged views on items to be included in a regional uniform method (an operational manual) for dust and sandstorms monitoring and data sharing. The outcome of the meeting will be fed to the projects on dust and sandstorms measures to be carried our by Asia Development Bank and other organizations.
