Aggregates of Fluorocarbons Destructed in FY 2004

The Ministry of the Environment announced the amount of fluorocarbons destructed in FY 2004 which was reported by fluorocarbons destruction operators in compliance with the Law concerning the Recovery and Destruction of Fluorocarbons (hereinafter referred to as the "Fluorocarbons Recovery and Destruction Law").

1.Total amount of destructed amount

The report shows that the destruction of fluorocarbons in FY 2004 totaled 2,976 tons, a 23% increase compared to FY 2003. The breakdown of this figure by the type of fluorocarbons is; chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) 954 tons, Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) 1,604 tons, and Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) 418 tons.

2.Collected amount by specified equipment

Classifying collected fluorocarbons by destruction operators according to the specified equipment stipulated in the Fluorocarbons Recovery and Destruction Law, the figures are; 2,490 tons for class-1 specified equipment (commercial freezers/chillers and air conditioners), an increase of approximately 23 % compared to FY 2003 and 456 tons for class-2 specified equipment (air conditioners installed on motor vehicles), an increase of approximately 10% compared to FY 2003.

Note: Fluorocarbons used as refrigerant of air conditioners installed on motor vehicles are recovered in line with the Law for the Recycling of End-of-Life Vehicles since January 2005.
