Abstract
As emphasized in the 2019 IPCC special report, climate change is a critical component in achieving global food security. Their interconnection drawing more attention than ever, heightened at the “Food, Agriculture and Water Day” at COP29.
With this, various R&D and innovations have been developed regarding food and agriculture. Many of them are in their actual implementation phase - how to tailor those results with actual needs is the common challenge we face.
Based on that recognition, this seminar sheds lights on the potential contribution from the food systems to the 1.5℃ target, by sharing R&D outcomes and experiences from Japan and other countries, aiming at encourage further climate actions by relevant stakeholders toward COP30 next year.
Japan's case studies include: Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) in paddy fields reducing CH4 emissions and its application to the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM), Biological Nitrification Inhibition (BNI) - enabled wheat maintaining high productivity under reduced nitrogen application, and Amino Acid Balanced Livestock Feed reducing N2O emissions. Speakers will be from public and private sector, and a panel discussion to follow.Program
