Diversity in Carbon Neutrality - Importance of Carbon-Neutral Energy -

Organizer
Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. (JAMA)
Details

Abstract

To achieve Carbon Neutrality (CN), it is crucial to take action from what we can do now, taking into account factors such as geographical location and economic status of each country.
In April 2024, the communiqué of the G7 Climate, Energy and Environment ministers meeting stated the importance of the role played by sustainable CN-fuels (e.g. biofuels and e-fuels) as one option to decarbonize the road transport sector.
Japan has also agreed to launch the new international joint initiative with Brazil, which has high potential for CN-fuels (CNF), and will continue discussions on the possibility of expanding the use of these fuels.
In this seminar we will discuss importance of the role of these sustainable fuels and possibility of expanding their use towards 2050 with stakeholders from Japan, Europe and Brazil, and will offer the result of discussion to COP30 (Brazil) in 2025.

Session Summary
Ms. YONEZAWA and Mr. Garcia explained the "ISFM", an international framework between Japan and Brazil to promote CN by combining CN fuel & high-performance mobility such as hybrid engines, and importance of reducing emissions throughout vehicle life cycle.
With Prof. ARIMA as moderator, we invited fuel industry representatives from Europe and Brazil, as well as energy think-tank experts from Europe and Japan to discuss decarbonization in the road transport sector.
The role of carbon neutral fuels for road transport decarbonization and effectiveness of multi-pathway approach were disseminated.
