G7-B7 Joint Workshop on Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency Principles Summary of Discussions

1. The first G7 and B7 Joint Workshop on Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency Principles (CEREP) was held on November 6 and 7, 2023, co-organized by this year’s Japanese G7 and B7 Presidencies. CEREP is a set of principles adopted at the G7 Ministers’ Meeting on Climate, Energy and Environment under the Japanese G7 Presidency and later approved at the G7 Summit in Hiroshima.
 
2. CEREP is a set of behavioral guidelines to promote circular economy and resource efficiency in the private sector. CEREP contains six core principles aiming to integrate circular economy into corporate managerial vision and medium- and long-term strategies and to promote the transition toward a circular economy and resource-efficient businesses.
 
3. During the workshop, B7 members, G7 countries, and other participants had a discussion on Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency Principles. Japan chaired the discussion on Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency Principles. MATSUZAWA Yutaka, Vice-Minister for Global Environmental Affairs, Ministry of the Environment of Japan, and Ms. NODA Yumiko, Vice Chair and Chair of the Environment Committee of Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), attended the workshop, representing present G7 and B7 Presidencies and organizations. From Italy, which will take over the 2024 Presidency, Ms. Vannia GAVA, Vice Minister, Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, attended.
