Announcement of a Seminar titled “Sustainably Developing Global Blue Carbon through International Cooperation” at the COP 28 Japan Pavilion
The Ministry of the Environment (MOE), Japan, will co-organize a seminar titled “Sustainably Developing Global Blue Carbon through International Cooperation” on December 11, 2023, at the COP 28 Japan Pavilion with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water of Australia. With a view to promoting local blue carbon activities, this event will provide a platform for multi-stakeholders related to blue carbon to share their experiences and views.
Seminar outline
(1) Background and objectives
Blue carbon ecosystems are recognized as providing multiple benefits, including not only climate change mitigation but also the conservation of coastal environments and fisheries resources, tourism, and local economic development. A wide variety of local blue carbon activities are being implemented around the world, taking into account local environmental and socio-economic conditions.
With a view to promoting local blue carbon activities, this event will provide a platform for multi-stakeholders related to blue carbon, such as local government, private sector, non-governmental organization, civil society, and fishery groups, to share their experiences and views on addressing issues related to local blue carbon activities along with providing examples of continued activities.
