Ministry of the Environment, Japan, and Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Republic of Indonesia, hold Bilateral Meeting and sign Comprehensive Environmental Cooperation Package
NISHIMURA Akihiro, Minister of the Environment (MOE) of Japan, participated in the G20 Environment and Climate Ministerial Meeting, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Luhut Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia, and signed the Comprehensive Environmental Cooperation Package on Climate-Biodiversity Conservation-Circular Economy-Nexus between Japan and the Republic of Indonesia.
The package aims to promote comprehensive cooperation on priority issues by Indonesia in the G20 environmental area and induce at least 700 million USD in public and private investment to simultaneously achieve the decarbonization transition, biodiversity conservation, and circular economy.
During the bilateral meeting, the ministers acknowledged the cooperation conducted to date and discussed a wide range of issues such as waste and marine plastic debris management and mangrove restoration, as well as future possible cooperation, including climate change measures.

Background
MOE Japan issued joint statements with H.E. Mr. Luhut, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia, in 2019 and 2021, and has promoted cooperation in waste management, environmental improvement of the Citarum River, and marine plastic debris management. On the occasion of the G20 Environment and Climate Ministerial Meeting, a comprehensive cooperation package on priority issues which Indonesia is focusing on in the environmental area of the G20 was agreed upon.
