Selected due to high levels for criteria 1, 4, 5, 6, and 8, and selected by the MARXAN software.
These are the waters off Southern Iwo Jima Island to the south-southeast, including numerous chemotrophic ecosystems around hydrothermal vents and seamounts. Nikko Seamount located in these waters has been confirmed to be home to a dense population of Lamellibrachia satsuma (Fujikura et al., 2008).
