Interim Report Compiled by the Investigative Committee for Motor Vehicle Exhaust Noise Policy on "Measures to Eliminate Motor Vehicles, Etc. Equipped with Inappropriate Mufflers"

The situation regarding motor vehicle traffic noise remains severe. Complaints have been received especially for vehicles with markedly higher noise levels compared to ordinary vehicles. This is due to modification or replacement of mufflers. Measures aimed at those vehicles have been strongly requested.

Against this backdrop, the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport jointly established the Investigative Committee for Motor Vehicle Exhaust Noise Policy in July 2004. Having deliberated on measures to effectively eliminate vehicles etc. equipped with inappropriate mufflers and vehicles with markedly high noise level, the Committee has recently put together an interim report on the results of these deliberations up to this point.
