Results of the survey on the enforcement status of the Soil Contamination Countermeasures Law and soil contamination investigations and countermeasures in the 2006 fiscal year

The Ministry of the Environment has conducted its annual survey on the enforcement status of the Soil Contamination Countermeasures Law and soil contamination investigations and countermeasures, which have been reported or recognized by prefectures and/or cabinet-ordered designated cities.
The number of Soil Contamination Investigations reported in FY 2006, which starts in April 2006 and ends in March 2007, based on said law amounts to 266. The total number of investigations after the enactment of the act reached 703.
As a result of said soil contamination investigations, 77 lots have been shown to exceed the designated standards, which has resulted their being put on the list of designated areas for 2006, and the total number of these lots dating from after the enactment of the act came to 189.
