The Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Forum for the Environment and Development in the Second Phase (APFEDII) Held

The fourth plenary meeting of the Asia-Pacific Forum for the Environment and Development in the Second Phase (APFEDII) was held on July 25 and 26, 2008 in Davao, the Philippines.

The APFED is a forum of eminent persons established in 2001 with the mission to propose models of equitable and sustainable development for the Asia-Pacific region. The Chairperson is Ms. Yoriko KAWAGUCHI, former Minister of the Environment. The progress of the APFEDII's core activities and the summarization of the APFEDII Final Report were discussed at this meeting. A ceremony for the Ryutaro Hashimoto APFED Awards was also held to commend activities deemed to be examples of good practices towards sustainable development.

Mr. Masayoshi NAMIKI, Vice-minister of the Environment, attended its opening on July 25th. He presented the results of the G8 Environment Ministers Meeting and the G8 summit and expressed his expectations for the forum in regards to the promotion of sustainable development in the region.
