Chemical Substance Fact Sheets, FY 2006 Edition.

The Ministry of the Environment (MOE) released the FY 2006 edition of the Chemical Substance Fact Sheets. The MOE has compiled the fact sheets annually since FY 2003, to provide the general public with simplified and easy-to-understand information on chemical substances designated by the Law Concerning Reporting and other laws such as the Releases to the Environment of Specific Chemical Substances and Promoting Improvements in Their Management (hereinafter referred to as the "PRTR Law"). The FY 2006 fact sheets contain information on 50 new substances chosen mainly from those emitted and transferred in larger amounts according to the PRTR data for FY 2005. It also updates information on the 159 substances covered in the FY 2005 edition.

By providing accurate information and promoting understanding of these chemical substances to people from different sectors (including businesses dealing with chemical substances as well as consumers), the MOE hopes to promote an appropriate management of chemical substances in the ultimate goal of reducing various environmental risks. In line with this goal, the MOE will continue to issue fact sheets herein.

The fact sheets (in Japanese) are available on the MOE website (see below for address). On the fact sheet page it is possible to search for a particular substance either by entering the substance name or by selecting it from the list provided. A search can also be made by usage or keywords. Information on individual substances can be downloaded in PDF files from the list of substances, or from the pages for each individual substance. A free brochure containing the fact sheets is also available.
