Opinions of the Minister of the Environment on the Environmental Impact Statement for the Ken-O Expressway

On the 19th of September, 2007, the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) submitted the Minister's opinions on the environmental impact statement for the Ken-O Expressway between Taiei in Narita City and Yokoshiba in Sammu City, Route 468, to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Impact Assessment Law.

This project is to construct a national road of 18.5 km in length with 4 lanes in Chiba Prefecture. As the project implementation area includes the habitat of Hotokedojyo (an endangered fish), the MOE pointed out the following:

1. Conduct surveys using methods such as boring in the implementation of the construction to assess its impact on spring water and take appropriate measures if needed.

2. Consider the measures against turbid water during construction and the size and structure of box culverts under the road embankment.

3. Conduct surveys on the habitat of Hotokedojyo after the construction and take appropriate measures if needed.
