Dust and Sandstorm (DSS) Observation Equipment Installed in Nagasaki Prefecture

The Ministry of the Environment (MOE) recently installed a real-time DSS observation system, LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), in Nagasaki Prefecture and began its operation. This is MOE's third LIDAR system, with the other two installed in Toyama Prefecture and Shimane Prefecture. The National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) also observes DSS using the LIDAR system in five locations in cooperation with other research organizations. Japan's DSS monitoring network now consists of eight LIDAR systems. The observation results are available on the NIES website(http://www-lidar.nies.go.jp/).
