Opinions of the Minister of the Environment on the Environmental Impact Statement for the Ohkawa-Saga Road

On the 12th of September, 2007, the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) submitted the Minister's opinions on the environmental impact statement for the Ohkawa-Saga Road, Route 208, to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Impact Assessment Law.

This project is to construct a national road of 10 km in length with 4 lanes in Saga and Fukuoka Prefectures. As the project implementation area includes the habitat of Nippon Baratanago (an endangered fish), the MOE pointed out the following:

Conduct detailed surveys on the habitat of Nippon Baratanago and that of bivalves necessary for the inhabitation of Nippon Baratanago, before starting to construct the road, and take appropriate measures based on the results of the surveys, in order that these habitats will not be affected by the road construction.
