The 3rd Conference of Parties to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants Held

The 3rd Conference of Parties (COP3) to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) was held in Dakar, Senegal, between April 30th and May 4th, 2007. The conference discussed the first effectiveness evaluation of the Convention, the activities of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC), etc.


The COP adopted the Global Monitoring Plan (GMP) and the implementation plan for the first effectiveness evaluation, and agreed upon the establishment of coordination groups and regional organization groups for the evaluation.


The COP received the report on the second POPRC held in November 2006. The conference confirmed the appointment of new members to replace some of the current members on the Committee. The COP also adopted the guidelines on best available techniques (BAT) and the guidance on best environmental practices (BEP).


The COP also agreed that COP4 would take place in Geneva, Switzerland in May 2009.
