Summary of import/ export of wastes under the Waste Management Law in 2006

The Ministry of the Environment has published a summary of export confirmations and import permissions of wastes covering January to December 2006 under the Waste Management and Public Cleansing Law. The number of export confirmations and import permissions of wastes were 23 cases (totaling 666,230 tons) and 4 cases (totaling 601 tons), respectively. All of the exported wastes were ash from coal fired power plants destined for cement production in South Korea. Imported wastes included waste fluorescent lamps, waste dry batteries and waste photoreceptors, all of which were received from Asian countries and regions for the purpose of resource recovery.
