MOEJ and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed renewed cooperation

1. Overview

The 6th Environmental Policy Dialogue between the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was held on May 19. The Dialogue was held based on "the Letter of Intent on Cooperation for Environment between the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and Asian Development Bank" (LOI) dated 25 June 2014. The Dialogue focused on themes such as the Japan Fund for the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JFJCM), International Carbon Markets, Climate Change Adaptation, the Initiative on Fluorocarbon Life Cycle Management, Zero-carbon and Resilient Cities, Air Quality Management, Waste management and Marine Plastic Litter, Environmentally Sustainable Transport (EST), and Biodiversity. Both shared the latest efforts and future issues of interest. Concerning the spread of new coronavirus (COVID-19), MOEJ mentioned its efforts such as infectious waste management, and both participants decided to continue further opinion exchange.

In addition, MOEJ Vice-Minister Morishita Satoru and ADB Vice-President Bambang Susantono signed the 2nd extension of LOI and shared the proactive new work program between MOEJ and ADB in 2020-2022.

2. Work Program on Cooperation for Environment between OEJ and ADB in 2020-2022

The work program supports the objectives of the LOI to strengthen, facilitate and develop mutual cooperation in the field of environment.
