Establishment of the Regional Liaison Committee in Support of the Inscription of the Ogasawara Islands as a World Heritage Site

The Study Team that the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) and the Forestry Agency formed to consider Japan's candidate sites for the World Heritage List decided to support the Ogasawara Islands as one of the candidate sites. Following this decision, the MOE and the Forestry Agency have decided to establish a Regional Liaison Committee consisting of related administrations and organizations and a Scientific Committee of academic experts to consider measures for promoting nature conservation management of the region. These measures will lend support to the region's inscription as a World Heritage Site. The decision to establish the Committees has been reported as of today to the Inter-Ministerial/Agency Co-ordination Committee for World Natural Heritage.
