FY 2005 Edition of Chemical Substance Fact Sheets

The Ministry of the Environment (MOE) released the FY 2005 edition of the Chemical Substance Fact Sheets. The MOE has annually compiled the fact sheets since FY 2002 to provide the general public with simplified and easy-to-understand information on chemical substances designated by the Law Concerning Reporting, etc. of Releases to the Environment of Specific Chemical Substances and Promoting Improvements in Their Management (hereinafter referred to as the "PRTR Law"). The FY 2005 fact sheets contains information on 50 new substances chosen from those emitted and transferred in particularly large amounts according to the PRTR data for FY 2004. Also, it updates the information on the 109 substances covered in the FY 2004 edition. By providing accurate information and promoting the understanding of these chemical substances by people from different sectors, such as businesses dealing with chemical substances and consumers, the MOE hopes to promote an appropriate management of chemical substances to reduce the environmental risk. To this end, the MOE will continue to issue fact sheets for the remaining chemical substances designated in the PRTR Law. The fact sheets are available on the MOE website (in Japanese). On the fact sheet page of the MOE site (https://www.env.go.jp/chemi/communication/factsheet.html), you can search for a fact sheet of a substance you would like to refer to, either by entering the substance name or by selecting it from the list provided. A search can also be made by usage or keywords. Information on individual substances can be downloaded in PDF files from the list of substances, or from the pages for each individual substance. A free brochure containing the fact sheets is also available. (Postage shall be paid by the applicants.)
