Brief Report of the 13th Workshop on Greenhouse Gas Inventories in Asia (WGIA13)

The Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ) and the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) convened, together with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia, the "13th Workshop on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventories in Asia (WGIA13)" from August 4 (Tuesday) to 6 (Thursday), 2015, in Bali, Indonesia.

The annual workshops have been held since 2003 in order to support non-Annex I (NAI) Parties in Asia to develop and improve their GHG inventories and to facilitate the enhancement of cooperative relationships towards improvement in the accuracy of national GHG inventories in the Asian region.

In this workshop, Mutual Learning sessions on GHG inventories were conducted, and various themes related to GHG inventories, including Biennial Update Reports (BURs) which are to be submitted by NAI Parties every two years, and their International Consultation and Analysis (ICA) were discussed. This workshop has succeeded in enhancing capacity-building on Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) to submit BURs including GHG inventories continuously and strengthening the network of Asian countries.

108 participants attended WGIA13 in total, including government and research representatives of twelve countries (Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Lao P.D.R., Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Republic of Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam), in addition to representatives of Technical Support Unit of the IPCC Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (IPCC/TFI/TSU), the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and others.
