Revision to Basic Policy on Promoting Green Purchasing and Results of Public Comments

Under the Law concerning the Promotion of Procurement of Eco-Friendly Goods and Services by the State and Other Entities (Law on Promoting Green Purchasing), the MOE of Japan has announced that the revision of the Basic Policy on Promoting Green Purchasing was approved at the Cabinet Meeting.
In this revision, new items (smartphone, metal blind, plywood form) was added to the list of designated procurement items. Also, "evaluation criteria" and "factors for consideration" of 47 items were partly revised. As a result, total number of designated procurement items is now 270. The existing items and their evaluation criteria will be reviewed annually based on the schedule for next 5 years which was created in 2014.
Also, the MOE of Japan had compiled the draft of the revision of the designated procurement items and their evaluation criteria. Public comments on this draft were received from November 7, 2014 to December 4, 2014. The overview of the comments and MOE's corresponding responses are announced.
