The 18th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer Held in New Delhi

The 18th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer was held from October 30 to November 3, 2006 in New Delhi, India.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the levels of essential-use exemptions and critical-use exemptions regarding ozone depleting substances (hereinafter referred to as ODS), in addition to remaining challenges such as compliance with the timelines for reduction of ODS, and other matters. The parties adopted many decisions to further promote appropriate countermeasures against ODS.

Next year marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Montreal Protocol. Moreover, the year 2010, when the consumption of major ODS is to be totally phased out, is approaching. Considering these circumstances, the parties decided to hold the "Dialogue on Key Future Challenges to be Faced by the Montreal Protocol" in June 2007 in Nairobi, Kenya.
