Cabinet Decision on the Fifth National Biodiversity Strategy of Japan

"The National Biodiversity Strategy of Japan 2012-2020" was decided on by the cabinet on September 28, 2012.

This strategy based on the Basic Act on Biodiversity sets national targets in line with the Aichi Biodiversity Targets adopted at the 10th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, which was held in October 2010. Taking into account the social conditions after the Great East Japan Earthquake and ongoing population decline, the Strategy also re-examines the relationship between people and nature and indicates a way to establish a society in harmony with nature for the future.
