Results of the 2nd Meeting of the Indonesia-Japan Joint Policy Study Working Group and Technical Seminar in North Sumatra Province

The Ministry of the Environment (MOE) of Japan held the 2nd meeting of the Indonesia-Japan joint policy study working group with the Deputy VII, State Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia (KLH), the Environment Agency of North Sumatra Province, the Environment Agency of Langkat Regency and the PTPN II model factory on the 25th of October, 2012 and hosted technical seminar on industrial wastewater management on the 26th of October, 2012 in Medan, Indonesia.

In the Joint Policy Study Working Group:
- Japanese participants explained the plan of the 5th KLH-MOEJ Expert Meeting and the Open Seminar, which will be held in Jakarta in late November.
- Indonesian participants reported on the current status and efforts of their task for the joint policy research and Japanese experts gave advices on their respective problems.
- Japanese participants explained a draft proposal of a mechanism, which constantly gives advice and information to factories for their wastewater management using an environmental technology database in Indonesia.

In the Technical Seminar, Japanese experts gave lectures on the following subjects for dissemination of basic knowledge and environmental technologies on industrial wastewater management.
- Basic engineering summary of organic wastewater treatment on palm oil mill
- Introduction of practical wastewater treatment facility
- Maintenance of wastewater treatment facility
