An Aggregate of Fluorocarbons Destroyed in FY 2010

The MOE announced the amount of fluorocarbons destroyed in FY 2010 based on reports submitted by fluorocarbon destruction operators as required under the Law concerning the Recovery and Destruction of Fluorocarbons.

1. Total amount of fluorocarbons destroyed
Fluorocarbons destroyed in FY 2010 totaled 4,152 tons(1), a 5% increase from the FY 2009 level. The breakdown of this figure by types of fluorocarbons is 271 tons of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), 2,284 tons of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), and 1,596 tons of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).

2. Amount of specified products collected
The breakdown of fluorocarbons collected by specified products is 3,307 tons of commercial refrigerators and air conditioners, a 10% increase from the FY 2009 level, and 904 tons of vehicle's air conditioners, a 4% decrease from the FY 2009 level.

Note: Since January 2005, recovery of fluorocarbons used as refrigerant in vehicle's air conditioners has been carried out in line with the Law for the Recycling of End-of-Life Vehicles.
