Aggregate of Fluorocarbons Destroyed in FY 2009

The MOE announced the amount of fluorocarbons destroyed in FY 2009 based on reports submitted by fluorocarbon destruction operators as required under the Law concerning the Recovery and Destruction of Fluorocarbons.

1. Total amount of fluorocarbons destroyed
Fluorocarbons destroyed in FY 2009 totaled 3,941 tons, a 5% decrease from the FY 2008 level. The breakdown of this figure by types of fluorocarbons is 271 tons of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), 2,164 tons of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), and 1,505 tons of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).

2. Amount of specified products collected
The breakdown of fluorocarbons collected by specified products is 2,999 tons of commercial refrigerators and air conditioners, a decrease of approximately 9% from the FY 2008 level, and 939 tons of mobile air conditioners, an increase of approximately 12% from the FY 2008 level.

Note: Since January 2005, recovery of fluorocarbons used as refrigerant in mobile air conditioners has been carried out in line with the Law for the Recycling of End-of-Life Vehicles.
