Results of the survey on the enforcement status of the Soil Contamination Countermeasures Law and Soil Contamination Investigations and Countermeasures in FY 2008

The MOE had conducted its annual survey on the enforcement status of the Soil Contamination Countermeasures Law and Soil Contamination Investigations and Countermeasures, which had been reported or recognized by prefectures and/or cabinet-ordered designated cities.

The number of Soil Contamination Investigations reported in FY 2008, which started in April 2008 and ended in March 2009, based on the said law was 239. The total number of investigations after the enactment of the Act reached 1,187.

As a result of the said Soil Contamination Investigations, 71 lots had shown to exceed the designated standards, which resulted in the addition on the list of designated areas for 2008, and the total number of these lots dating from after the enactment of the Act summed 341.

Further details about these results are available on the MOE website at https://www.env.go.jp/water/dojo/chosa.html (Note: website is in Japanese).
