World Wetlands Day 2010

February 2 each year is World Wetlands Day. It marks the date of the adoption of the Ramsar Convention (Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat) on February 2, 1971, in the Iranian City of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
Various events including birdwatching tours and lectures will be held aiming to raise public awareness regarding the importance of wetlands by administrative bodies, NGOs, citizen groups and others.
