E-waste Training Workshop for Asia and the Pacific

The Vietnam Environment Administration (VEA), the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ), the Secretariat of the Basel Convention (SBC), the Basel Convention Regional Centre for South-East Asia (BCRC-SEA) and the Basel Convention Coordinating Centre for Asia and the Pacific (BCRC China) will co-organize an E-waste Training Workshop for Asia and the Pacific on 10-14 August 2009 in Hanoi, Vietnam, under the Basel Convention Partnership on Environmentally Sound Management (ESM) of E-waste in the Asia-Pacific region.

The objectives of the workshop are: 1) to assist governmental officials in charge of the implementation of the Basel Convention and the management of E-waste in developing national strategic frameworks and measures for the ESM of E-waste; 2) to facilitate them in keeping up with the up-to-date and practical approaches and techniques in the E-waste management; and 3) to encourage participating countries to undertake further policy actions in the field.

The participating countries will be: Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan. Resource representatives will be from: United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Institute of Developing Economies-Japan External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO), National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), universities, private companies, etc.
