2050 Zero Carbon Cities in Japan

As of December 1, 2020

  • 177 local governments including Tokyo, Kyoto, and Yokohama announced their commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
    • These local governments represent 82 million people (64.7% of Japan's population), and 3.6 trillion USD in GDP. (Exceeded the initial target of 65 million (more than half of Japan's population) and still expanding)
