Crabeater Seal (Lobodon carcinophagus) Pinnepedia/ Phocidae
Length: 200-240cm. Weight: 200-300kg. The color varies in but generally lighter than the Weddell Seal, and it lightens as they mature. The Crabeater Seal is relatively slender with the body smaller than that of the Weddell and the legs smaller than those of the Leopard.

They are found in the Antarctic pack-ice area and they are not frequently observed in the fast ice or ice free areas. Feed on krill, sometimes on squids and fish. The current population is estimated as 25,000,000.

The population of the Crabeater Seal equals to the total of all other species of Carnivora and Pinnepedia, which makes them the biggest consumer of krill. Unlike their name, they feed mainly on krill.
