A caldera lake and mountain streams surrounded by a primeval forest
Craters of a double caldera remain at Lake Towada. You can gain a view of the entire lake from viewpoints on the outer rim mountains. There are also tour boats providing lake cruises. They will take you to see the inner walls of the calderas. Yasumiya Yasumitai on the lake shore is the site of Towada-jinja Shrine, which long ago attracted believers in water spirits. The Oirase stream, which flows year-round from Lake Towada, provides enchanting views of waterfalls. The landscape changes with the seasons, including the freshness of spring, the greenery of the Tohoku region's short, blazing summer, the bright foliage of autumn, and the silent snow blanketing the slopes in winter.
