Shiratori Onsen is located on the way to Ebino Highland from Ebino City. It is famous for Uwayu, where Saigo Takamori had a lengthy stay, and Shimoyu, where the poet Yosano Akiko and her husband came to visit. In the mountain above Uwayu, there is also a steaming fumarolic area known as Jigoku, or "Hell." Uwayu is a historical hot spring in which Saigo Takamori stayed for three months to ease his body and mind after losing the Seikanron debate. The ambiance of its wooden, natural steam bath and the many baths that have a pleasant, woody fragrance will conjure up nostalgic images of the olden days. Slightly further down from Uwayu, Shimoyu is a charming hot spring with a playful spirit in the midst of nature. Here, you can also stay in cabins and enjoy the outdoor adventure course for a real outdoor experience.

For its spectacular view of Ebino City, Uwayu’s panoramic open-air bath is one of the most appealing highlights of Shiratori Onsen. You can also enjoy Uwayu’s steam bath, which uses natural steam, private rooms with stone baths, and a monthly seasonal menu cooked with local ingredients. Even the onsen tamago (soft “hot spring” eggs) and steamed vegetables are cooked with the hot spring’s steam.
Shimoyu has indoor baths, a steam bath, and an outside garden bath, and additionally offers reservable private baths in a separate building so those needing special assistance when bathing can still enjoy the hot springs. You can also have fun on the outdoor adventure course and multi-purpose field.
