A car ride along the spine of the Hakone somma (volcanic caldera). This course offers exquisite scenic views of Mt. Fuji, Lake Ashinoko, and Hakone.

Course Outline

Lake Ashinoko and the Hakone skyline both running across the western ridge of the western ridge of the Hakone soma (volcanic caldera). This course proposes a pleasant car ride for viewing the outstanding scenery from Hakone Pass toward Kojiri Pass, with an exquisite view of Mt. Fuji.

Stretched out below is the beautiful landscape of Lake Ashinoko and Mt. Komagatake, with tea houses and scenic points at several places along the way, for example, at Shakushi Pass and Mikuni Pass. These are wonderful places for taking memorable pictures. The ride can also be comfortably completed all at once. A section of the road is a "melody road" that sets car tires singing.

Lake Ashinoko from“Lake View”

On the route from Hakone Pass in northern direction, Lake Ashinoko and Mt. Komagatake can be seen on the right. The “Lake View” rest house has an observation spot and parking space. This course offers views of Lake Ashinoko and Mt. Komagatake from different angles compared with the Lake Ashinoko West Bank Course.

Mt. Fuji from Mikuni Pass

This course gives visitors enjoyable views of Mt. Fuji throughout the entire car ride. The view on Mt. Fuji from Mikuni Pass is particularly beautiful, and on clear days Mt. Fuji is in full sight across its mighty base. A recommended spot for photography.

Lake Ashinoko from Lake Ashinoko Tenbo Park

From Kojiri Pass to the Hakone Skyline and on to Lake Ashinoko Tenbo Park. Parking space is available, with a good view on Lake Ashinoko and Owakudani, and on Mt. Fuji on the opposite side. This road is open 24 hours and recommended also for enjoying the nocturnal scenery.
