The sacred Mt. Daisen, where the gods reside
Mt. Daisen has been traditionally worshiped since ancient times as a sacred mountain. With age-old historic sites, temples, and shrines across the mountainside, it is steeped in an awe-inspiring aura. The Mt. Daisen Natsuyama Summer Festival is held every June at the summit to pray for mountaineering safety and on its eve, 2,000 people carry torches down the path at Ogamiyama Shrine. At the triennial Daisen Miyuki Festival held since the Heian Period (the 8th to 12th century), participants parade down the path in traditional attire, carrying intricate portable shrines called mikoshi. You might say that the heart Mt. Daisen’s faith is its history and culture itself.

The dynamic beauty of the mountain landscape and deep nature
The impressive aspect of Mt. Daisen changes depending on the place and angle from which you view it. The west side presents an elegant and stately form, while its north and south faces are rugged and bold. It is home to western Japan’s one of the largest beech forest and many rare species live in the extensive grasslands across the foot of the mountain. Mt. Daisen is also habitat to various alpine plants and colorful flowers, and boasts a magnificent view of the Sea of Japan below. The nature of Mt. Daisen offers countless ways to enjoy the seasons, from vibrant spring foliage and summer mountain climbing, to autumn colors and winter skiing.

A highland resort where time slows down
The Hiruzen Highland is a leisure and resort area located at the foot of Hiruzen Three Peaks—Mt. Kami-Hiruzen, Mt. Naka-Hiruzen, and Mt. Shimo-Hiruzen. The highland is dotted with ranches of grazing jersey cow and horse stables where you can enjoy horse riding. It is the perfect destination for spending a relaxing time in the grasslands of the picturesque countryside. If you partake in one of the cycling and driving courses, you can experience the beautiful harmony of nature and the pastoral landscape while getting a taste for the rural life of the local people.
