The Kawayu Eco-museum Center, run by Ministry of the Environment, introduces you to Kawayu's wonderful natural environment and helps connect you with nature. Here, you can experience the 30,000-year volcanic history of the Kussharo Caldera, one of the largest calderas in the world, and the life-giving power of Mother Nature.The center presents the many of wonders of nature in a multitude of ways: In the Image Diorama Theater, learn about the history of the earth as carved into the Kussharo Caldera through leading-edge videos. In the information corner, get the latest info on the best sights to see in the current season before heading outside. And, in the fireplace-heated lounge, look up information about the area's plants, animals, and events in the comprehensive database.
Throughout the seasons, the center also puts on a variety of nature observation events that let you experience the world of the wild first-hand, making it a great place to spend a relaxing day surrounded by nature.
