In addition, Japan is promoting the 3Rs in order to conserve its
limited resources and establish a sound material-cycle society and
realize a socio-economy which is sustainable over the long term,
with the 3Rs of course being “reduce,” “reuse” and “recycle”: reduce
waste, reuse both resources and products, and recycle whatever possible.
At the G8 Sea Island Summit held earlier this month, the 3R Initiative,
which was proposed by Prime Minister Koizumi, was agreed upon by
the heads of state, and an Environment Ministers Meeting on the 3R
Initiative will be held in Japan in the spring of 2005. I look forward
to the opportunity to share more information about this upcoming
event at a future date.
Japan will make enhanced efforts to expand the promotion of 3Rs into
global action. Japan believes that it is important to accelerate
international efforts on recycling with due consideration to the
environment, especially in the East Asian region, and I am particularly
eager to move forward with this through your cooperation and support. |
