[Abstract]

　Coverage of the coral community at the moat of reefs was analyzed using images aerial color photograph images in the Yaeyama group, Ryukyu Islands, Okinawa in 1975 and 1976. Photographs chosen were transferred by the digital color scanning camera to a computer, then image domains were counted for their gray values for each R,G,B channel,and grouped by value patterns on the coordinates of R on G. By comparing the coral coverage surveyed in the field with the groups, a low level of R and G indicated a low coral coverage, and a high level of G and R indicated a high coral coverage.
