[Abstract]

　In order to encourage the beneficial use of sewage sludge, most of which is now disposed of as waste material, problems with anaerobic digestion of sludge were surveyed, and the practical utility of gas powered electric generation systems using methane gas produced by the digestion process was studied and the feasibility of using digestion gas as the city gas was also examined. Laboratory experiments were carried out to study the mechanism producing nitrous oxide during composting: another beneficial way to use sludge.
