[Abstract]

Multiple scattering contributions to the total backscatter signal cannot be neglected in spaceborne lidar measurements. We performed model simulations in order to assess the influence of multiple scattering on signals detected with the proposed ELISE system. Also, the resulting effects for the signal inversion were investigated.
