@Technologies that belong to the gWater Environment Improvement Technology in Enclosed Coastal Seash field targeted in this project are technologies in general mainly aiming at exerting any of the following effects:

Technologies

(a) Technologies that improve water quality and sediments in the field

  • [1] ”Water quality improvement” means the improvement of living environment items concerning sea areas.
  • [2] ”Sediment improvement” means the improvement of organic matters, sulfides, etc., and the reduction of elution of nitrogen and phosphorus.

(b) Technologies which contribute to improvement of habitat environments and which are directly applicable to sea areas

  • [1] Conservation and reclamation of seaweed beds and tidelands
  • [2] Technologies to reduce or prevent phenomena that worsen habitat environments, such as the generation of anoxic water mass, blue tide, red tide, etc.
  • [3] Other technologies that improve habitat environments

About water environment improvement in enclosed coastal seas

  • Enclosed coastal seas have specific conditions (susceptible to accumulation of pollutants, etc.). Although total pollutant load control for COD, nitrogen and phosphorus has been conducted, anoxic water mass, red tide, etc. are still being generated. Therefore, in addition to conventional measures to reduce pollution loads, conservation and reclamation of tidelands and improvement of sediment environments were newly targeted in the g6th Basic Direction of the Total Water Pollutant Load Control Schemeh (Report of Central Environmental Council, May 2005).
  • Ministry of the Environment will continue to promote the total pollutant load control surely, and develop and diffuse technologies that directly purify sea area itself and improve habitat environments. In this project, low cost technologies that can be easily introduced by local governments, etc., and which do not produce much byproduct are chosen.
