What is Environmental Leadership Vision?


The Ministry of the Environment created a Vision of University-led Environmental Leadership Initiatives for Asian Sustainability (Environmental Leadership Vision) in March 2008

The Vision encompasses developing academic programs to train the environmental leaders of tomorrow who will build greener socioeconomic systems that touch every aspect of our lives

About ELIAS

Working to realize the goal of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014), the Strategy for an Environmental Nation in the 21st Century (approved by the Japanese Cabinet in June 2007) addresses the need for environmental leadership training that will provide the foundation for building a sustainable society and outlines a plan for implementing environmental leadership initiatives in Asia.

Guided by the Vision for University-led Environmental Leadership Initiatives for Asian Sustainability (Environmental Leadership Vision), the Ministry of the Environment works with relevant government ministries and agencies to implement environmental leadership initiatives by (1) developing model programs at higher education institutions, (2) establishing government-industry-academia consortiums, and (3) building a network of Asian universities.
