The green-colored medicinal bath being associated with Nanbu domain at the southern foot of Mt. Akitakomagatake

The discovery of Kunimi Onsen dates back to Genroku era in Edo period. This area with lush greenery has prospered as the therapeutic hot spring facilities of Nanbu domain. Characterized by the hot spring source that is said to be green or emerald green, which is quite unusual even at the nationwide level, the hot springs area has been popular as “green-colored medicinal bath”.

Not only being used as the traditional therapeutic hot springs, but also as day-use hot springs, a climbing base for Mt. Akitakomagatake, and an outdoor bath for pets among rare cases, many people visit here still today.

Without any regular bus service, and also closed in winter, the access is not good at all. But, the magnificent natural greenery and the green color of abundant hot spring source here are worth enough to be reached.
