International cooperation schemes in Japan that can be used for environmental cooperation and the examples of international cooperation in the field of the environment are shown in the table below.

1. Information collection stage

Global warming prevention technology diffusion and promotion program (survey to discover cooperative projects) New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) On the assumption of specific sectors, provide support for cost required to review MRV method, potential reduction of greenhouse gas emission, prospective evaluation of project, financing, etc. for the purpose of identifying prospective projects for establishing a program.
Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Partnership Promotion Survey (F/S Assistance) The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Based on the proposal from a smaller business who desires to operate in a developing country and is reviewing business activities that will contribute to solution of development issues in a developing country, provide support for information collection and establishing a business plan for launching business in such country and review potential cooperation with ODA projects.
Preparatory Survey for BOP business promotion The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Based on the proposal from a Japanese corporation who plans to operate BOP business in a developing country, conduct a survey to review and confirm the possibility of business model operation, establishing a business plan and a cooperative project with JICA projects.

Feasibility study in relation to establishment of a bilateral carbon offset credit system (survey for establishing JCM demonstration project) Global Environment Centre Foundation (GEC) As a rule, targeting the projects that meet the condition to apply for "JCM Model Project" in following year, provide support for cost of survey required in connection with establishment of an implementation plan and financing plan of a project with the aim of JCM registration, and the development and application of JCM methodology that can be applied to such project.
Dissemination and Promotion of Global Warming Countermeasure Technology
Feasibility Studies and Demonstration Projects with the Aim of Developing a Joint Crediting Mechanism
New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) With the aim of establishing JCM, conduct a study to analyze the potential reduction of greenhouse gas emission by diffusing Japan's excellent technologies, and a concrete method of diffusion and promotion of those technologies. Based on the study results, establish an implementation plan or proposal for a specific project.
Demonstration program of technologies and systems for improvement of international energy consumption (survey prior to demonstration program) New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) Carry out a demonstration project regarding Japan's energy and renewable energy-related technologies and systems in cooperation with the government of a target country, and promote the international deployment and diffusion of the technologies and systems by showing validity, etc. Conduct a prior survey on the possibility to implement a candidate program of new technologies and systems demonstration, which is necessary before implementing specific program activities including consultation with the government of a target country and candidate companies on site and adjustment of conditions.
Basic survey for small business cooperation promotion (survey for establishing project) The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Based on the proposal from a smaller business who desires to operate in a developing country and is reviewing business activities that will contribute to solution of development issues in a developing country, provide support for information collection and establishing a business plan for launching business in such country and also provide support for cost of reviewing potential cooperation with ODA projects.
Preparatory Survey for PPP Infrastructure Projects The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) On the assumption that a project will be implemented using a yen based loan or overseas investment and loan program, provide support for research cost for the purpose of creating a basic plan of PPP infrastructure business and verifying the validity, efficiency and other factors in relation to the proposed business project.

Global warming prevention technology diffusion and promotion program (JCM demonstration project) New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) In relation to a technology or system for which there is an obstacle or a technical problem in introducing in a target country, provide support for cost and other support to conduct a technology verification project to verify the validity of such technology or system by introducing machines and equipment necessary for operating entrusted works and utilizing a bilateral carbon offset credit system to enhance the effects of reduction of greenhouse gas emission and energy conservation or alternative energy.
Demonstration program of technologies and systems for improvement of international energy consumption (demonstration program) New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) Carry out a demonstration project regarding Japan's energy and renewable energy-related technologies and systems in cooperation with the government of a target country, and promote the international deployment and diffusion of the technologies and systems by showing validity, etc. Conclude a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between NEDO and the government of the target country, and after [1] basic and detailed designs of the facilities, [2] production and transportation, and [3] installation and test operation have been finished, diffuse and promote the technologies and systems through demonstrative operation.
Private sector proposal of diffusion and demonstration program The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) In relation to procurement and installation of materials and equipment in a certain level of scale and ongoing local activities in which it is allow to purchase materials and equipment or set a research period spanning different fiscal years, verify that products and technologies of small businesses in Japan are effective and useful in the development projects in developing companies, and provide support for cost and other support to enhance the local fitness and promote diffusion of such products and technologies.
Project to diffuse and promote  private sector technology for social and economical development in developing countries The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Provide support for cost and others to review the possibility to use the products and technologies and know-how, together with a system encompassing all of them, of private sectors in Japan in the development projects in developing countries through promotion of understanding of the government officials in developing countries about those Japanese products and technologies.
Project of human resource development support for exporting low carbon technology The Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association (HIDA) With the aim of contributing to reduction of CO2 emission and development of overseas market by Japanese companies through support of human resource development in the fields of operation and maintenance of energy infrastructure and energy conservation in production processes of foreign manufacturing plants, apply subsidies to partial cost of accepting local workers in Japan and dispatching experts from Japan.

Demonstration program of technologies and systems for improvement of international energy consumption (follow-up project) New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) Carry out a demonstration project regarding Japan's energy and renewable energy-related technologies and systems in cooperation with the government of a target country, and promote the international deployment and diffusion of the technologies and systems by showing validity, etc. In order to diffuse and promote the technologies and systems for which demonstration was conducted in the target country, dispatch experts to the country and conduct training and seminars, etc. using the introduced facilities.
Technology cooperation project The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) "Technology cooperation project" which is implemented in a best combination of "dispatching experts," "accepting trainees," and "providing equipment" is the central project in technology cooperation. It is operated and carried out systematically and comprehensively in a consistent manner through the entire project schedule from planning to evaluation.
