Eco Town Programs

Eco Town Program, which started in 1997, has placed "Zero Emission" concept (a concept to recycle all the wastes generated from a industry as material for other industry, achieving no waste generation) as a basis for establishing an environmentally harmonizing socio-economy in local community. Also, the Program aims to advocate environmentally progressive and harmonized town by integrating the program as a core measure to promote regional development.

To be more specific, if a program developed by prefectural or ordinance designated city governments (if a program is planned by local cities, towns and villages, including community unions, it should be under the joint signature of prefectural government) gains approval jointly provided by the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Export, Trade and Industry, comprehensive and multifaceted support will be provided by the ministries to the project implemented under the program.
