7th International Symposium on Environmental Endocrine Disruptors

The Ministry of the Environment sponsored the 7th International Symposium on Environmental Endocrine Disruptors in Nagoya, Aichi, December 15 - 17, 2004. Researchers, administrators, industries associations concerned and general public from 10 different countries participated in the Symposium, totaling to approximately 2,200 for 3days including 100 overseas participants.

<Program of the Symposium>

> December 15     Session open to the public (approximately 1,000 participants)
Following programs were conducted for general public and very interesting discussions were made.
  (i) Special lecture entiled "Function of Hormones" by Professor Takeshi Yourou, Kitasato University
  (ii) Presentation of research activities and efforts conducted under "Strategic Programs on Environmental Endocrine Disruptors '98 (SPEED'98)" from the standpoint of researchers and administrators and briefing on the course of future policies
  (iii) Panel discussion on "How to Inform Issues of Environmental Endocrine Disruptors" focusing on environmental education
> December 15-16     Program for experts (approximately 600 participants on each day) In programs for experts on the second and the third day, 40 experts were invited from Japan and abroad to present at 6 sessions; "Basic Science", "Wildlife", "Exposure", "Human Health", "Future Research Directions", and "Risk Communication". Active discussions were held in each session, including Q &A with the audience, and the discussions also covered the future prospect of research.

Japan Society of Endocrine Disruptors Research conducted its 7th annual meeting concurrently with this Symposium at the same venue. Poster session of the meeting was also exhibited during the Symposium and attracted a great deal of interest by participants.
