Commemorative Event to Mark the Entry into Force of the Kyoto Protocol to Be Held on 16 February 2005 in Kyoto

Japanese Environment Minister Ms. Yuriko Koike and Ms. Waller-Hunter, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) agreed on December 14, 2004 on holding a commemorative event to celebrate the entry into force of the Kyoto Protocol.

The event will take place on February 16, 2005 at the Kyoto International Conference Hall, where the Protocol adopted in 1997. Details of the event will be worked out. The Ministry of the Environment, Kyoto prefectural and municipal governments will co-organize the event.

Minister Koike, who is attending the tenth Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP10) met with Ms. Waller-Hunter in Buenos Aires.
